ghost-huntersThe original reality series Ghost Hunters will return with all-new episodes to the newly-named Syfy network August 19. The show has been in re-runs since April. In recent weeks, spin-off series Ghost Hunters International began running its newest season of shows. Very few shows on Syfy have achieved the success of Ghost Hunters, which features a team of paranormal investigators who attempt to debunk and disprove paranormal claims.

Ghost Hunters: Paranormal Success?

During it’s five-season stint on Syfy (and SciFi, as the network was originally called), Ghost Hunters has managed to set records on the cable network. In April, the show brought in network-high ratings, pulling in an audience of 2.9 million viewers. By cable network standards, that’s phenomenal success. Every year, the series celebrates an hours-long live Halloween event, which brings in a huge audience of Web traffic and home viewers.

Ghost Hunters Criticism

In the past, the show has been the target of controversy and speculation. Some of the evidence uncovered by the team has been questioned, as has their use of certain tools and equipment. One notable incident occurred on the Halloween 2008 special, where one investigator had an experience with his collar being repeatedly pulled down. Skeptics and critics of the show have claimed that some paranormal events seem to be faked or staged for the sake of the viewing audience.

New Episodes of Ghost Hunters

Despite the critics, Ghost Hunters is still very much a Syfy success story. The show is scheduled to begin again in a matter of weeks, bringing new adventures to delight reality watchers. Is the show real? Is the evidence real? Is any reality TV actually real? Maybe it doesn’t matter. Maybe the only thing that matters is, Ghost Hunters is a success. As long as it continues to bring in watchers, it will very likely continue to bring us new episodes.
